The Advanced Search function allows you to input particular criteria to make your results more exact. You may use any combination of one or more search fields to limit your search. The more fields you use, the smaller your result set will be. To reset the search screen, click the Clear button. You can browse all terms in a field by selecting the "select terms" link. Boolean Operators AND, OR, NOT work in all fields.
You can also select from our indexed terms using the Select terms link next to each field when relevant. Just click the term you want to find, and click Add Terms. This will automatically put the term into the search field so all you need to do next is click Search.
Search Text, Transcripts and Notes for any word spoken or shown in any work. Combine this field with the indexed fields below for more powerful searching. For example, search the transcript for "Nyae Nyae" and enter "John Marshall" as the ethnographer to find titles about John Marshall’s work with the !Kung in Africa.
Search Title or Series to search for a specific title or series. These can be combined with other fields to look for specific things within a known title.
Select which Content Type you want to retrieve.
Search Author/Ethnographer for all works where a person is indexed as an author or ethnographer.
Search on a specific Publisher.
Select a range of dates to view content that has Original Release Dates or Recording Dates from that period.
Search Geographic Location for content indexed for a specific location.
Select a Language for a work, which is the language a book is written in or which is spoken or subtitled in a video.
Search using the Subject field to search on all the separate subject categories, or any specific one from the drop-down: general subjects, person discussed, organizations discussed, cultural groups, and geographic location.
Search Contributor to find works citing a specific person as a contributor in any of the categories listed in the drop-down: author/ethnographer, editor, participant, contributor, video narrator, director, or producer.
Use Sort Results By to choose and order for the results to be presented: by relevancy, alphabetically by title, or chronologically by original release date.
